Given the number of cases of fraud in the US organic agri-food sector, the USDA now proposes amending the Organic Regulations to strengthen oversight and enforcement of the production, handling, and sale of organic agricultural products. The proposed amendments are designed to strengthen organic control systems, improve farm to market traceability, and provide robust enforcement of the USDA organic regulations. The USDA has issued a draft proposed rule, but the consultation period of 60 days will only begin when the proposed rule is published officially in the Federal Register.
